Blend Phonics is a very simple beginning phonics program that is free! It can also be used for remedial use for tutoring with Don Potter’s Blend Phonics Reader and Elizabeth Brown’s step-by-step guide to using Blend Phonics, linked from her How to Tutor page.
It was developed by Hazel Loring, and is as effective today as the day she she it developed it.
Every phonics program has a history, Blend Phonics is no exception. Mrs. Loring mentioned that she had taught the Beacon Phonics Charts. Fortunately, for our research, Google Book has republished James H. Fassett’s 1912 Beacon Readers and the 1922 Beacon Readers and the Beacon Teacher’s Manual. Careful comparison makes it clear that Loring was basing her method on the Beacon phonics system.
I’m thrilled to see this!
